Stopped by my old vo-tech building on Route 9 and the CNC lab is all touchscreens now
Drove past the old vo-tech on Route 9 last month and the door was open, so I poked my head in. The lab I learned on had four Bridgeports with hand cranks and a guy named Ernie who checked my dial calipers with a gauge block before I could touch a part. Now it is six enclosed machines with touchscreens and one kid watching all of them from a chair. I asked the instructor where the chips go and he laughed and pointed at a conveyor. Honestly the parts coming off looked great, but nobody in that room could tell me what backlash feels like in the handles. I get it, that is where the money is, but I still think you learn speeds and feeds in your hands first. Anyone else walk back into their old training spot and not recognize it?
