I thought I needed to learn Python first, then I tried JavaScript for 2 weeks and switched
For about 3 months I kept putting off learning to code because everyone online said Python was the only beginner language worth starting with. A friend at a meetup in Portland convinced me to try JavaScript instead by showing me how I could open up Chrome DevTools and see my code run on a real webpage in seconds. I spent 2 weeks doing both, and honestly seeing stuff show up in the browser right away kept me way more motivated than staring at a black terminal window. Now I'm 4 months in and building small buttons and forms, and I actually look forward to practicing. Did anyone else start with JavaScript or did you stick with Python, and what made it click for you?
Starting with Python actually worked better for me because the syntax is simpler and I could focus on learning how to think through problems without fighting the language itself. The terminal felt boring at first too, but once I got past that hump the logic skills carried over to everything else, including JavaScript later on. Browser feedback is fun for sure, but I would not tell anyone to skip Python just because the output looks less exciting at first.
