Showerthought: I swore off neon palettes for client work until a sign guy in Dallas changed my mind
Last Tuesday I was putting together a set for a food truck rebrand and I kept going back to soft pastels because neon always felt cheap to me. Then I walked past a taqueria on Elm Street with a hot pink and lime sign that looked amazing in the late sun, and I stood there for like five minutes just staring at it. The sign guy was outside touching up a corner and he said shops pick neon because gray parking lots swallow everything else, and honestly that made sense. I went back to my desk and swapped out my safe sage and cream for a punchy magenta and yellow, and the truck owner picked that set on the first try without a single change. So now I'm sitting on a whole folder of muted sets I built for 2 weeks that I may never use again. Has anyone else had a client push them toward loud colors and then it actually worked better than the safe pick?
