My $60 color checker card saved a wedding shoot last month

I was shooting at a friend's wedding in Savannah and the venue had these weird purple LED lights all over the dance floor. My camera kept showing everyone looking sickly green in the previews. I pulled out the color checker card I bought for 60 bucks and shot a quick reference frame before the first dance. In post, I just white balanced off the gray patch and the skin tones finally looked natural. Has anyone else used a physical card instead of just eyeballing it in camera?
