Tried matching paint to fabric by eye, swatch cards beat it every time

Last month I was doing a small bedroom refresh and thought I could save a trip by holding a pillowcase up to paint chips at the hardware store. The store lighting made everything look warmer, and I grabbed a tan that turned out pinkish once I got it on the wall. After two failed samples, I finally cut a piece of the fabric and brought it to the counter for their spectrophotometer match. The custom mix cost about $8 more per gallon, but it nailed the tone on the first coat. I learned that my eyes are fine for rough choices, but not for matching a specific textile. Does anyone else keep a fabric swatch library just for paint projects, or do you stick with photo apps on your phone?
