My uncle Bob asked me to grab the red folder off his desk in Sacramento last month, and I stood there staring at four folders that all looked the same shade to me. He laughed and said, "Buddy, they're sitting right there, red, green, yellow, blue," and I had to explain that his "red" and "green" look like the same muddy brown to my eyes. It hit me right then that every chart, button, and warning label I make at work probably has the same problem for someone else. Now I use icons, patterns, and labels next to my colors instead of trusting the colors alone. What's your go to backup when color just won't do the job?
