Nearly launched a dashboard that would have been useless to 8% of users

Last month my team was about to push a new analytics dashboard live. Color was our only way to show status indicators green for good, red for issues. A beta tester who works in IT told me he's colorblind and couldn't tell the difference between the two. We had to scramble for 3 days to add icons and patterns before the launch date. Has anyone else caught a color-only issue right before a release went public?

Right, nothing like shipping a feature that literally breaks for 1 in 12 people. What's that, 8% user experience oopsie? Hope the boss bought you pizza for that last minute fix.
