Pro tip: Stop saying yes to every client call the same day

Right? That exact block has been a game changer for me too. I used to check emails before noon and just get sucked into random stuff all morning. Now I don't touch my inbox until after lunch and my brain actually has gas left by the end of the day.

Vent: That time a load line got pinched on a tight job in Chicago

Man that is a rough situation, I feel for you. Having to set a load back down and respool in a tight alley like that is every operator's nightmare. Those pinch points on steel beams can mess up a line fast and it sounds like you caught it just in time. Glad it was just scuffed, a frayed line on a busy street like LaSalle would have been a whole different mess. Good call stopping when you did.

Dropped $400 on a fancy workbench top and it was a total waste

Butcher block top for $400? That's actually a really good deal if it's solid maple. Most decent butcher block countertops run closer to $600-$800 for a standard size. The thing people miss is that "solid" doesn't always mean what they think it means. A lot of those cheaper butcher block tops are actually edge-glued strips with voids and filler in between, so they'll split or cup way faster than a proper maple workbench top from a woodworking supplier. Sounds like yours was the real deal though if it held up a decade of abuse. Just saying, keep an eye out for those quick-drying wood glues in the joints, they're not all made the same and will crack under heavy use.

Shoutout to the old guy at the air show in Oshkosh who showed me his wire marking system

Wait, "always oil a leather hinge"? @grace926, that's wild, I've never even heard of that. I mean, I've seen leather hinges on like old toolboxes and some vintage gun cases, but I always thought you just let them be or replace em. Oiling them sounds like it would attract dirt and make them all greasy and nasty. But then again, your grandpa probably knew more than me since I've just been slapping WD-40 on everything that creaks. Still, the idea of purposely putting oil on leather feels wrong to me, like pouring water on a candle. I guess if it worked for him, then it's got to be good, but my brain is just short-circuiting trying to picture it.

Hit a weird CSS bug where my footer jumped 400px to the left for no reason

Super simple HTML" is the way to go, honestly. @willow_anderson85 I started doing the same thing after I kept breaking my layouts with too many nested divs. Keeping it basic saves so much headache and it always loads fast on mobile.
