Bought a $300 post vise off a guy in Bozeman and it fixed my hammering
Picked up a 6 inch post vise for $300 from a guy in Bozeman who was getting out of the trade. My hammer blows stopped bouncing weird off the anvil because the vise soaks up the vibration instead of sending it into my elbow. My forearms hurt way less after a full day at the forge, and my tong hand finally stays steady on the steel. Anyone else running a post vise bolted to a wood stump, or did I just get lucky with this setup?
What kind of stump are you using under it, like a full round or a split chunk? Been thinking about switching mine off the bench because the vibration still goes right through my floor. How's the 6 inch size feel for bigger stock, does it ever want to twist on you?
