Found a first issue of X-Men at a garage sale for 4 bucks, the old guy told me it was his ex-wife's
I flipped it open and the cover was peeling but the inside pages were mint, turns out it's the 1963 one, he just laughed and said take it, and now I'm paranoid every bargain bin find has a hidden gem so I bring a loupe and a UV light to every sale, has anyone else gotten burned by feeling too cool to check condition carefully?

You ever get that itch where you want to kick yourself for not checking the spine before buying? I had a similar thing with an old run of Daredevil, found a beat-up issue, cover looked like a cat used it as a scratching post, but the pages inside were flawless. Turns out it was a first print with a misprint on the inner cover, worth way more than the guy was asking. Now I do the same thing you do, I bring a little flashlight and check the staples and edges on everything, even the dollar bin stuff. It's crazy how a tiny crease can drop value by half, but a hidden printing error can boost it ten times. You just never know, so taking that extra thirty seconds has saved me more than once.
