Last Wednesday at my local shop, a guy argued that The Walking Dead comics are better than Invincible because they're 'more realistic'

I was standing there flipping through a Spider-Man issue and this guy just goes off for a solid 10 minutes about how Kirkman peaked with zombies. Said Invincible is just a gimmick because of the cartoon. I told him I've read both runs twice and Invincible has way better character arcs. He got quiet and walked away. Anyone else run into fans who rank comics based on weird criteria like 'realism' in a genre about superpowers?

Realism in a comic about a decaying world full of shambling corpses. That's a new one. Invincible's whole deal is how characters actually change and grow over time instead of just surviving another issue. Walking Dead is fine but it mostly runs in place after a while. People just get defensive when their favorite thing gets a hot adaptation and the other one doesn't.

Man people get way too worked up about which comic is more "realistic" like it matters. Invincible is good, Walking Dead is good, can we just enjoy things without turning it into a contest about who has the better zombies?
