Overheard a guy at the convention say he only reads comics for the movie connections now
I was in line for a signing at Emerald City Comic Con last weekend, and the guy behind me told his friend he dropped all his monthly pulls except the ones tied to upcoming Marvel or DC movies. He said, 'I just need to know the backstory for the films.' It made me think a lot of new fans are treating the source material like homework instead of stories that stand on their own. Has anyone else noticed this shift, or is it just my local shop?

Saw the same thing at my local shop last month. A kid asked for every comic with Kang because of the Ant Man movie. He didn't even know the character's real name is Nathaniel Richards. It's turning stories into CliffsNotes. People used to find a cool comic and then get excited for the movie. Now it's totally backwards, and they miss the actual good stuff that never gets adapted.

Wait, he dropped all his monthly pulls? That's wild to me. I know a guy who did that and missed the entire Immortal Hulk run because it wasn't tied to a movie plan. He just read the old stories and now he thinks he knows the character. The comics are where the weird, cool stuff happens first. The movies just pick and choose.
