Unpopular opinion: I was reading comics wrong for like 15 years

Honestly, I only read the main story in a comic and skipped all the letters pages, editor's notes, and backup stories. I thought they were just filler. Ngl, I picked up a beat-up copy of 'New Mutants' #98 from a flea market last month and finally read the whole thing, including the editor's column. It explained the joke behind Deadpool's name and totally changed the character for me. Has anyone else had a moment where the 'extra' stuff in a comic actually made it better?

Wait, you didn't read the letters pages? Those were the best part back in the day, they had all the inside jokes and drama. I found an old X-Factor once where the editor's note totally explained why a character was acting so weird, made the whole issue click.

Totally. Those old letter columns were like the first message boards. Remember when a fan would write in with a wild theory, and the editor would just confirm it? Saw one where someone guessed a hero's secret identity months before the reveal. The editor wrote back "nice catch" and the whole fanbase lost it. That direct line felt special. Now it's all just corporate social media posts.
