Why does everyone call every variant cover a '1:25' when it's not?
I was at my local shop in Portland on Wednesday and this guy pointed at a regular foil cover and told his friend it was a 1:25 incentive. It clearly said 1:10 on the bag tag. I see this mix-up all the time online too, especially with Marvel and DC books. Is it just people not reading the packing slip, or are shops purposely labeling things wrong to move stock? Has anyone else noticed this at their store?
Has your shop started putting the ratio on the price tag stickers too? Because that helps me a ton when I’m digging through new arrivals. I see the same thing, honestly. People look at a cover with a foil or a sketch variant and just assume it’s the hot ratio book, even when the distributor code or the row it’s in clearly says otherwise. It’s probably a mix of lazy reading and some shops hoping you’ll think you’re getting a deal on a rare book when it’s just the standard 1:10. I’ve started asking to see the invoice or the back of the bag where they write the pull list info, it clears it up fast.
