A dead CMOS battery on a Tuesday, and what I found in the BIOS clock
A customer brought in an old OptiPlex 3020 from his insurance office in Mesa last Tuesday, said the clock reset every morning and he was late punching in for two weeks. I popped the side panel, swapped the CR2032 in about 30 seconds, but the date was stuck on January 1, 2014, which meant the board had been dead longer than he thought. Turned out his time clock software was pulling the wrong date and logging every punch as a duplicate, so payroll flagged his whole office. New battery, reset the BIOS, and I walked him through a Windows time sync. Anyone run into software that freaks out this bad over a $2 battery?
