Found out Dell still ships 4GB of RAM in 2024 laptops, and it broke my brain
I opened up a brand new Inspiron 15 at my bench in Dayton last Tuesday for a simple RAM upgrade and found a single 4GB stick of DDR4, soldered in half the time. The customer paid $380 for this thing at a big box store and Windows 11 was already choking on startup with 90% memory use right out of the box. How are we supposed to tell people their new computer is basically e-waste before they even open the lid?
4GB in a 2024 laptop is wild. That's like selling a car with a lawn mower engine and calling it fuel efficient. The soldered half is the real kicker too, so you can't even fix it without a soldering iron and a prayer. Windows 11 alone wants 4GB just to breathe, so this thing is gasping for air before the customer even opens a browser. Your e-waste comment is spot on, it's basically a paperweight that happens to turn on.
