Burned a 12 yard pour in Tempe because I trusted the truck gauge over my own thumb
Ngl I was finishing a driveway in Tempe 3 weeks back and the mix felt stiff the whole time, but the ticket said 4 inch slump so I just kept going. The truck driver said the plant added water so it should be fine, and I believed him instead of pulling a slump cone. We started floating and the cream just tore, and by the time I got the bull float back on it the whole slab was setting up on me. Cost us $1,850 in ready mix plus a full day of tear out. Turns out the plant was adding water in the drum and never logging it on the ticket, and my thumb test would have caught it in 2 seconds. Do any of you still pull a cone on every truck or do you trust the slip like I did?
