Showerthought: I saw a crew switch from a bull float to a fresno and it was like night and day
This was on a big garage slab pour in Phoenix last summer. The first half they did with a bull float, and the finish was okay but had some ripples. After lunch, the foreman pulled out a fresno for the second half. The difference in the final surface was crazy smooth, like glass. It cut their finishing time down by almost an hour. Anyone else made that switch and seen a big jump in quality?

Totally get that, a fresno is a game changer for big slabs. I watched a crew use one on a patio pour and the finish was perfect. It just moves the cream around so much better than a bull float.

My last patio crew swore by magnesium floats for that cream.

I get the hype around magnesium floats, but I've had better luck with a good old aluminum float for that cream finish. The magnesium stuff just seems to drag too much for me, especially if the concrete's already setting up a bit.
