Update: Saw a crew trying to finish in direct sun at 2 PM yesterday
Honestly, they were spraying water like crazy trying to keep it open, but it was already setting up too fast. Ngl, I've made that mistake before on a driveway in July and the finish was a mess. Anyone got a good trick for timing pours on hot days besides just starting at 4 AM?

Sounds like they were fighting a losing battle. My trick is just to not pour concrete when the sun is trying to cook it.

That "losing battle" idea is exactly the problem. Sometimes you don't have a choice on the schedule. The sun is going to be out, so you have to know how to handle it. With the right mix design and proper curing methods, you can place concrete in hot weather just fine. Shutting down every sunny day isn't realistic for most jobs. You just plan for the conditions.
