Warning: My crew almost lost a whole slab to a hidden water line in Kansas City last month
We were setting up for a big garage pour in the Brookside area, and the homeowner swore all the old utilities were capped off. My guy, Mike, hit a live 2-inch water line with a stake about 30 minutes before the truck showed up. The city had to shut off the whole block for an hour while we fixed it. What's your go-to move for checking for buried lines when the homeowner's info is wrong?

A live 2-inch line? That's a nightmare.

Makes the job exciting though, right?

Almost lost a whole slab" is putting it nicely. My go-to move is to call 811 and then still dig like every shovel is a live wire. I've trusted a homeowner's "for sure it's capped" line before. Ended up hitting a sewer lateral. That was a bad day for everyone, especially my nose.
