Built a tiny Roswell crash site for a model contest, and now I'm arguing with judges about alien autopsies.

Oh man, my friend got into a huge fight at a train model show because he used the wrong shade of rust colored paint on a boxcar. The judges said it was not accurate for that year and region. He spent twenty minutes trying to explain creative license before he just packed his stuff and left. Some of these contest people get so hung up on the tiny details they miss the cool thing you made.

Used to be one of those guys who cared about every little detail. Remember arguing with a buddy over the exact type of grass on his diorama, saying it had to match the real place. But hearing about your friend's boxcar, it hit me how silly that is. We get so caught up in being right that we forget the fun part, like the way he probably made that rust look real and weathered. Now I see contests should reward skill and imagination, not just a color chart. Your friend's experience really opened my eyes.
