Appreciation post: my old super called me out of the blue about a 4 week schedule and it stuck with me
Last Tuesday a super I worked under on a 6 story parking deck job in Boise called me just to check in and asked how I was handling the submittals on my current project. When I said I was chasing them myself he laughed and said he stopped doing that years ago because he started writing the schedule with the subs in the room instead of emailing it out for sign off. Made me wonder how many of my delays are self made, does anyone here actually build the schedule with their trades or do you send it and hope?
That line about writing the schedule with the subs in the room is the whole thing right there. We started doing a two hour sit down with our big trades before the schedule gets locked, and the pushback is way less when they helped build the dates. The electrical guy called out a gear delivery that would have blown my rough in by two weeks, so we moved it then instead of finding out in the field. My submittal log got shorter too because they tell you right there which ones actually hold up their work.
