Ran my subpanel ground to the steel frame instead of a ground rod, inspector caught it in 5 minutes
Spent two weekends wiring my 40ft container and tied every ground wire straight to the frame. Figured steel is steel, right? The inspector walked in, looked at my panel, and asked where my grounding electrode conductor was. Told him the frame IS the ground. He just shook his head and pointed at the paint and the rubber gasket on the door hinges. Turns out the frame only counts as a grounding electrode if it's bonded in a specific way, and mine wasn't. Had to drive an 8ft copper rod 6 feet from the container and run a #6 bare copper back to the panel. Cost me $60 and a full redo of the ground bar. Anyone else get burned by the 'steel frame is automatically grounded' assumption?
