Hot take: a patch test is not optional, and I lost a $600 color job learning that
Two months ago a regular walked into my chair in Portland asking for a box black dye over henna she'd used three weeks before, and I skipped the patch because she'd been coming to me for years. Big mistake. Mid-application her scalp started burning and I rinsed her out fast, then spent 40 minutes calming her down and explaining why her hair went greenish at the roots. She was fine, but she left without paying and I ate the cost of the fix plus lost her as a regular. Now I keep a 48 hour rule no matter how loyal the client is, so does anyone else get pushback on this and how do you shut it down without sounding preachy?
