Just realized I burned $340 on a 'hand-coded' icon set I could have drawn myself in an afternoon
Honestly I still feel dumb about this one. About two months back I was deep in a client project and needed a set of 24 custom line icons, so instead of just opening Illustrator and drawing them like I normally do, I paid $340 for a "hand-crafted" pack from some guy on a design marketplace who claimed each one was made with a custom grid and pixel math. Turns out the whole set was basically a base shape duplicated 24 times with tiny tweaks, and I could see it plain as day once I lifted the paths in Figma. What really got me is I spent a full Saturday night renaming and resizing all of them to fit my 24px grid, which is the exact thing I was trying to avoid by buying them. My buddy Marco in Portland laughed at me for a solid five minutes when I showed him the source files. Anyway if you're tempted to buy an icon pack for a project, just check if the paths actually differ before you drop cash. Has anyone else opened up a paid icon set and found out it was way lazier than the preview made it look?
