Old timer's advice about load charts saved me in Portland

Back in 2008, a retired operator named Hank told me to always calculate the load chart twice, even for routine picks. I blew it off for years until I had a 12 ton steel beam job in Portland where the wind was gusting at 25 mph. I ran the numbers a second time like he said and found I was 4 feet over my safe radius. Anyone else have an old school tip that turned out to be the exact thing you needed?

Man, that story hits close to home. I’ve had my own close calls that only got caught because I double checked the basics, and it’s usually the quiet advice you ignore that saves your butt later. Hank knew what he was talking about, and I’m glad you listened before it was too late.
