Riggers keep calling out the load radius from the wrong boom point on luffer setups
I've been running a 300 ton luffer on a job in Baltimore for the last 4 months and I keep seeing the same thing with newer riggers. They'll pull the radius off the load chart using the tip of the boom instead of the actual load line point, and that number can be off by a solid 6 to 8 feet depending on the jib angle. It matters because that small gap eats up capacity margin you thought you had. I caught one guy calling out 42 feet when it was really closer to 49, and at that stick length it was the difference between a pick and a no-go. I know because I've watched three different crews make the same call this month. How are you all getting riggers to double check the radius before they radio it up?
