Vent: That time a load line got pinched on a tight job in Chicago

I was working a 50-ton Grove in a narrow alley off LaSalle Street last month, swinging a HVAC unit up to a 12-story roof. The taglines got crossed with a scaffold arm and the load line started rubbing against a steel beam edge. I had to stop mid-lift, set the load down on a flatbed, and respool 30 feet of line to check for fraying - thank goodness it was just scuffed. Has anyone else dealt with a pinch point in a super tight urban spot?

Man that is a rough situation, I feel for you. Having to set a load back down and respool in a tight alley like that is every operator's nightmare. Those pinch points on steel beams can mess up a line fast and it sounds like you caught it just in time. Glad it was just scuffed, a frayed line on a busy street like LaSalle would have been a whole different mess. Good call stopping when you did.

Tbh it sounds like you handled it fine and the line just got a scuff. People act like every little close call is a near death experience but sometimes it's just part of the job.
