My studio's logo went from 14 flat colors to 3 and our print costs dropped, but is the new look actually better?
Six months ago our studio in Boise was paying $1,900 a run for posters because our logo had 14 flat colors plus a gradient that never sat right on cheap paper. We cut it down to 3 colors after a press guy showed me how the gradient turned into mud on every proof. The new run costs $1,150 and the print looks cleaner, so one side of the shop says we finally grew up. The other side says the old logo had a punch the new one lost. Which matters more for a creative studio, the look or the bill?
Man, take the win. Saving $750 a run is real money and cleaner print is cleaner print. A logo that turns to mud on cheap paper was never doing you any favors anyway.
