Stuck between building my portfolio site by hand vs using a template, went with hand coding and it took 3 weeks | Creative Studios - The Design Community Hub
Spent 3 weeks on something a template would've done in a weekend, and for what? Nobody visiting your portfolio cares about your hand coded CSS, they care about the work, and a clean template gets out of the way so the work is what people see. Time is the one thing you can't get back, so blowing 3 weeks on markup is 3 weeks you didn't spend on actual projects or looking for clients. Hand coding feels productive because you're busy, but busy and useful are not the same thing. Templates exist because the layout part is solved, and there is no prize for solving a solved problem. You could've launched in 2 days and spent the other 19 on work that actually moves things forward.
