Tried that "never start with a blank canvas" advice and it just made my work worse
A guy from a design meetup in Portland told me I should always start with a template or a mood board to avoid the empty screen problem. Gave it a real shot for 2 months. Every project came out feeling like a copy of something else. Went back to just staring at a white page and letting it come together messy. Has anyone else found that starting from zero works better for them?

Man, yes! I feel you. I had the exact same problem with mood boards. I spent three days collecting all these images for a logo project and ended up just remaking a Dribbble shot I liked. It was so frustrating. Starting from blank is way better for me. Even if the first couple hours are a mess, at least I feel like my own ideas are on the page, not someone else's.
