Spent a whole Sunday fighting a box-shadow border trick

Took me 6 hours to realize the parent's overflow was clipping my glow effect, has anyone else burned a day on that same setup?

The overflow thing gets everyone at least once. What finally fixed it for me was putting the glow effect on a pseudo-element instead of the box itself. That way the parent overflow can't touch it, since it sits outside the normal flow. Also made the blur radius way bigger than I thought it needed to be, like 20px minimum, because subtle glows just disappear. Took me a whole evening to figure that out and I was so mad it was that simple.
