My local library's event flyers used to look like a kid made them in Word

I mean, for real, they were just basic text on a white page with maybe one clip art image. I saw them every month and never really looked twice. Then about three months ago, they started putting up new ones that actually made me stop and read them. The difference is crazy. They switched from just listing the info to using a clear layout with a big photo at the top, a nice bold font for the event name, and the details in a simple column on the side. I asked the librarian, and she said a volunteer who does graphic design for a living offered to help. It's the same info, but now it looks like something you'd want to go to. It made me realize how much good design, even for something simple like a community flyer, can change if people actually pay attention to it. Has anyone else seen a public place totally change how their printed stuff looks?

Bad design can be charming though, it feels more real and less like an ad.

Yeah, my buddy runs this little record shop and his website looks like it's straight out of 1998. Comic Sans, flashing text, the whole deal. He was so embarrassed by it for the longest time. But then people started telling him they loved it, that it felt like digging through a real crate in a dusty basement instead of some slick corporate store. It's honestly become a weird part of the shop's charm, like a secret handshake.

Honestly that sounds like the perfect vibe for a record shop. My local hardware store's website still has one of those "under construction" gifs and I swear it drives more foot traffic than their actual ads. People love a good digital time capsule.
