I spent 3 years avoiding open shelving and finally caved
Always thought open shelves in a kitchen meant dusting every plate twice a week... then my sister put them in her 1940s bungalow in Portland and it just worked. She had all her white stoneware stacked neatly, and the wall color behind made it feel warm instead of cluttered. What convinced me was watching her actually use them daily, cups and bowls right at hand instead of buried in cabinets. I tried a small 4 foot section over my coffee station last month with only mugs and jars, and honestly it's been easier to keep tidy than I expected. Still not doing full wall-to-wall shelves, but I get the appeal now. Anyone with open shelving found a good trick for hiding the less pretty stuff like tupperware?
