Question about the tile guy in Sacramento who told me my grout lines were too wide
So last year I hired a tile guy named Ray to redo my bathroom floor in Sacramento, and on day one he looked at the 3/8 inch grout lines I'd laid out with spacers and just shook his head. He said, and I quote, 'these lines are gonna look like a highway grid in 1970s airport, you want 1/8 inch for this marble look.' I was pretty annoyed because I'd already bought the spacers and mapped everything out on graph paper. But he grabbed a scrap piece and laid two tiles side by side with the smaller gap, and honestly it looked way cleaner. We ended up going with 1/8 inch and the floor turned out so much better than my original plan. It cost me an extra $140 in new spacers and a trip back to the tile shop, but I'd do it again. Has anyone else had a contractor push back on their layout and been glad they listened, or did you stick to your guns?
