Had a client tell me my wireframes were 'too clean'
She said they looked finished, not like a draft. So people wouldn't give real feedback. Made me strip out all the colors and padding. Now I show ugly black and white boxes with squiggly lines. It's been 4 months and the feedback is way more honest. Anybody else get told their mockups look too polished?

Made mine almost painfully rough sketches on graph paper before anything digital, forces them to focus on the bones of the thing instead of getting distracted by color or fonts.

Honestly, "too clean" feels like a weird nitpick to me. Like, are these people so easily fooled by a little padding and color that they can't tell a draft from a finished product? I get the strategy behind stripping it down, but it also sounds like a lot of extra work just to get people to pay attention. Most clients I've dealt with either get it or they don't, and making things uglier doesn't guarantee they'll suddenly have better opinions. Seems like overthinking a pretty simple problem, but hey, if it works for you, I guess it works.
