Saw a pro sketch in a Tokyo cafe and now I question my whole process
I was killing time in Shibuya last month and this guy next to me whipped out a sketchbook, did a full character design in 4 minutes flat with zero erasing, then closed it like it was nothing. Does fast and messy actually beat slow and clean for capturing ideas, or is that just romanticizing talent? Has anyone else watched a stranger's process and felt their own method collapse?
Ditch the slow and clean mindset, fast and messy is just a show for the cafe crowd. Half the time those street sketches look impressive 'cause theyre done in a fancy book with nice pens, but the idea is usually shallow as hell. Your method probably catches the core of the thing way better, you just dont get the dopamine hit of watching someone flick their wrist for 4 minutes.
