I stopped using pure black in my designs and it felt wrong for a week

After years of using #000000 for text, I tried a dark charcoal blue like #1a1a2e instead. My client said the headers looked "softer but still professional" and I honestly hated it at first. Has anyone else had that weird adjustment period when changing a basic habit like that?

I totally went through the same thing when I switched my text from pure black to a dark charcoal.

Nah, but you're mixing two different things, actually. Pure black text (#000000) versus dark charcoal (#1a1a1a or something) is a visual thing for reducing eye strain on screens. What the original post was about is adjusting the metadata direction in a script, not talking about aesthetics. I've messed this up before too, thinking someone meant design when they meant code. It happens when you skim too fast.
