My first client logo got rejected because I ignored the printer at a shop in Philly

I spent 3 days on this deep purple and teal logo for a food truck, then watched the actual printed menus come out looking like a bruised banana because I never checked how the colors looked on plain paper, so I ended up redesigning it twice in one night, has anyone else been burned by not testing your palette on cheap stock first?

Honestly I used to think the whole "test it on cheap paper" thing was just printers being dramatic. Like, who cares what it looks like on the dumpster quality stock when it looks perfect on my screen, right? Then I did a batch of flyers for a buddy's garage sale and the deep red I picked came out looking like dried ketchup on soggy cardboard. Totally changed my mind after that, now I print a test sheet on whatever dollar store paper they're gonna use before I even send the final file anywhere. It's annoying and costs an extra 20 minutes but I'd rather do that than redo everything twice at 2am like you just did.
