Keyboard macro setup at a cowork space changed my entire workflow, but is it cheating?
So last month I was booking it at this cramped cowork spot in Nashville trying to meet a 5pm delivery for a logo pack. I was clicking through the same 12 steps in Illustrator for the tenth time that day, and this guy across from me leans over and says "you know you can just record that right?" He showed me his macro bar and it took me maybe 20 minutes to set up my own for repeat actions. Now I knock out those tasks in like 2 seconds flat. But part of me wonders if relying on macros too much makes me lazy when I gotta work on someone else's machine without my setup. When I go on site or borrow a laptop, I feel like I forgot how to do basic stuff manually. Do you guys think macros are a legit skill or just a crutch? Has anyone else dealt with feeling slower after getting too used to their own shortcuts?
