Overheard a designer at a coffee shop talk about 'batching' and it clicked for me

I was sitting at a local coffee shop on Grand Avenue last Tuesday, and this graphic designer was talking to her friend about how she saves time. She said she sets aside Tuesday mornings just for picking fonts and colors for all her projects that week. At first I thought that sounded kind of rigid, but then I tried it myself for two weeks. I usually hop between tasks and waste so much time switching gears, but doing all the similar stuff together cut my Friday afternoon scramble by like half. The funny thing is, I even started batching my client emails and social media posts too. Has anyone else found that doing one type of task in a big block works better than jumping around?

Wait, you actually scheduled a whole morning just for fonts and colors? That is wild to me. I cannot imagine planning out something that specific two weeks in advance like it's a doctor's appointment or something. But if it cut your Friday scramble in half, I guess I cannot argue with the results. I always figured mixing things up kept me from getting bored, but maybe I have been doing it wrong this whole time.

You ever notice how we plan the big stuff like vacations and appointments but leave the small stuff to chaos? I mean, think about it, we obsess over which restaurant to book but slap together our morning routine like it's no big deal. It's kind of backwards when you realize the small stuff is what fills most of our days. I bet half the stress people feel is from not giving the boring details any thought ahead of time. Once I started treating font choices or color schemes like a real task, my brain actually calmed down. It's wild how a little structure in the tiny things can make the whole week feel smoother.
