Appreciation post: Switched from a single big lamp to two smaller ones

I had a big architect lamp on my desk for a long time, but I kept getting a harsh shadow on my drawing board. Last Tuesday I tried two small, cheap LED lamps from Ikea, one on each side. The light is way more even now and I don't have to squint. Has anyone else tried this trick with their task lighting?

Totally get the shadow problem. My own desk looked like a crime scene for a while, with one lamp casting this dramatic, suspicious shadow from my coffee mug. Swapping to two smaller lights was a game changer, even if my setup now looks a bit like a low budget operating room. The even light is worth it though.

Honestly, why do they even sell those huge single lamps for desks? I was so sure one strong light was the best way to go for years. Tbh, dealing with those deep shadows while trying to read plans or anything detailed just wore me out. Trying two cheaper lamps on either side was a total shock, it just works so much better without being hard on your eyes.
