My monitor arm fell off the desk at 3am during a late night shift

I was adjusting my dual monitor setup in my home office after a night shift when the clamp just snapped off the glass desk and one of my monitors crashed onto my keyboard, and now I'm trying to figure out if I should get a sturdier clamp or just switch to a solid wood desk instead - has anyone else had a glass desk fail on them like this?

Honestly, I had the exact same thing happen with a glass desk and it was the scariest moment of my life. I switched to a thick butcher block top on some heavy duty standing desk legs and haven't had a single issue since. Glass desks just aren't built for the torque and weight of monitor arms, no matter how good the clamp is.

My buddy Mike had the same thing happen with his glass desk back in 2017 - a clamp snapped right through the surface and sent his monitor flying into his coffee mug. He switched to a solid wood desk from a local carpenter and @simonreed would probably get a kick out of this but he says he'll never go back to glass.
