Hit 100 design revisions on one project and it actually made me rethink my workflow
I just wrapped up a logo project for a local coffee shop in Portland and the revision count hit 100 exactly. At first I was annoyed, like who needs 100 tweaks on a single logo? But looking back, each round actually made the design stronger. The turning point was around revision 60 when the client sent me a screenshot of their competitor's logo and said "see how they use negative space?" That one comment clicked something in my brain. I started noticing patterns in their feedback and realized they weren't being picky, they just didn't have the words to explain what they wanted. Now I actually ask clients for examples of what they hate early on, saves everyone time. Has anyone else found a weird number like 50 or 200 that changed how you approach a project?

100 revisions feels like a lot until you hit that breakthrough moment, I had a similar thing happen around revision 80 on a brewery logo. The client kept saying "make it feel more local" for weeks and I was just guessing until they showed me a photo of their grandpas old fishing tackle box. Thats when I realized they wanted weathered textures and rusty colors not just a clean vector mark. Now in my first client call I ask them to pull up five images they hate and five they love on their phone real quick. It cuts my revision count down to maybe 20 or 30 tops because I start closer to the target instead of wandering around. The trick is reading between the lines of what they say, like if they say "too modern" they usually mean "make it feel like it already exists" not literally go back in time. Your negative space example is exactly that kind of moment where the client accidentally teaches you their whole design language in one sentence.
