Still on the fence about design critique groups after 8 months of trying one
I joined a local critique circle in Austin last fall, half expecting everyone to just nod at each other's work, but the feedback actually caught real layout issues I'd missed for weeks. The flip side is we spend 30 minutes debating font pairings that don't matter to the actual client. Anyone else find critique groups either sharpen your eye or just echo your own doubts?

...and honestly my first critique group made me want to redesign my whole portfolio just so they'd stop talking about my kerning. But after a few months I realized the 30 minute font debates were actually teaching me to defend my choices, which is half the battle when a client asks why the logo is "too modern." So yeah, they can echo your doubts sometimes, but if you stick around long enough you start hearing the useful stuff buried under all the noise.
