Trying to match a client's brand color took me 4 hours yesterday

I got a brief from a local bakery client who wanted their new flyer to match the exact shade of their storefront teal. They sent me a photo they took with their phone, and I figured I'd just use the eyedropper tool and be done in 5 minutes. Wrong. The lighting in the photo was off, so the color looked totally different on screen. I spent the next 2 hours tweaking hex codes and ordering test prints from the shop down the street. Then I drove to their store with 3 sample prints to compare in person. We finally agreed on a match after holding them up against the actual wall for 20 minutes. Has anyone else had a color match turn into a whole day project? I'm thinking about getting one of those color reader gadgets but not sure if it's worth the money.
