I stopped using dark mode for everything after my morning commute on BART
Turns out my app design looked fine on my OLED phone but when the guy next to me with an older LCD screen tried to read it in the sun at 8 AM, he asked if I was trying to hide something, so now I test on at least three different screens with glare before shipping anything, anyone else checking contrast in real world lighting?

Had a buddy who designed this whole app in dark mode on his MacBook Pro, then took the train to show his cousin and the dude literally couldn't read a single button because the train had those flickering fluorescent lights. He ended up redesigning the whole thing from scratch after that commute.

Man, @finley_walker57 that's exactly the kind of thing that happens when you get stuck in your own bubble. I did something similar - coded a whole website on my high-end monitor at home, then showed it to my dad on his old office screen and everything looked like a blurry mess.
