Found a cheap trick for priming a dry fuel system on a 7.3

Been fighting a 2002 F-250 that wouldn't start after a fuel filter change. Tried cranking it over for what felt like forever, no luck. Filled the filter housing with diesel before putting the cap on, cracked the lines at the injectors, and it fired right up on the third crank. Anyone else do this or am I just slow to figure it out?

...and honestly I've never even bothered with the relay thing. I mean yeah, you're cranking it a bit, but the 7.3 starter is built like a tank and can handle way more abuse than people give it credit for. I've done the fill-and-crack method on my '01 probably a dozen times after filter changes and fuel system work, and it's always fired up without any drama. Pulling a relay just seems like adding an extra step for no real payoff unless you're running the battery dead trying to start it for ten minutes straight.

Did you try pulling the fuel pump relay first to save your starter?
