My uncle swore by using ATF to free up a seized Cummins injector
He told me, 'Just pour a little automatic transmission fluid in the fuel bowl overnight, it'll work like magic.' I did it on a 6.7L that came into the shop last month, and the next morning it was still totally locked up. Ended up having to pull the whole rack. Has anyone else gotten some wild old-school advice that completely backfired?

Yeah, the "diesel in the radiator" trick! I read an old mechanic's forum where guys said it was an old-school stop-leak for small cracks. The idea was the diesel would swell the rubber seals. Sounds wild and probably terrible for the water pump.
