Faced a choice between a full kitchen demo or just a new backsplash last month

My old backsplash was cracked tile, and I had to pick between ripping everything out down to the studs or just patching the drywall and putting up new stuff. I went with the full demo because the wall felt soft behind the tile. It took me three full weekends, but I found old wiring that needed replacing. Anyone else go for the bigger job when a small fix seemed easier?
